What’s the difference between a Chiropodist and Podiatrist?
Approximately 25 years ago to qualify to be a Chiropodist you would complete a diploma course. Once this changed to a Podiatry degree course they also changed the title to Podiatrist to differentiate between the old and new qualifications.
Ten years ago the title Podiatrists and Chiropodists were protected under the HCPC, from this point on anyone who has not completed a degree in Podiatry or converted their qualifications cannot use these titles. Any practitioners who are not registered under the HCPC use the title Foot Health Practitioner.
By choosing to see a Podiatrist you are ensuring that you will be seeing a qualified practitioner who has completed a three year degree course and is obliged to follow the strict guidelines set out by the HCPC.
